The landscape of European funding for startups and SMEs remains rich in the summer of 2026. Several European Commission programmes and international accelerators offer non-repayable grants, equity investments and acceleration paths.

Most deadlines are concentrated between July and November 2026. Knowing the available instruments helps innovative companies plan their applications well in advance.

The European Innovation Council programmes

The European Union’s flagship instrument is the EIC Accelerator, dedicated to deep-tech startups and SMEs developing radical innovations. It combines a non-repayable component of up to 2.5 million euro with an equity share of 1 to 15 million through the EIC Fund.

The summer cut-off for Step 2 is set for 8 July 2026, with further windows on 2 September and 4 November 2026. Step 1 remains open on a continuous basis.

Alongside the Accelerator, EIC Transition funds the maturation of technologies beyond the laboratory stage, with a grant of up to 2.5 million euro and a deadline of 16 September 2026. The EIC Pathfinder Challenges 2026 supports collaborative research, with grants of up to 4 million euro and a closing date of 28 October 2026.

Digital innovation, intellectual property and the green transition

The SME Fund “Ideas Powered for Business”, managed by the EUIPO, supports the protection of intellectual property for small and medium-sized enterprises. It offers vouchers that reimburse up to 75% of the registration fees for trademarks, designs and patents, and it runs until 4 December 2026.

The LIFE Programme finances circular economy projects with coverage of up to 60% of eligible costs, with deadlines on 16 and 22 September 2026. The Digital Europe Programme supports advanced digital skills and cybersecurity, with several windows open between July and October 2026.

International accelerators and global calls

Beyond the EU programmes, many international calls remain accessible. The Eureka network opens the Eurostars Call 11 on 9 July 2026, closing on 10 September 2026 and covering between 40% and 50% of industrial costs.

The global accelerators Techstars and MassChallenge offer investment, mentorship and cash prizes. Techstars provides investment of up to 120,000 dollars, while MassChallenge works with a no-equity model and prizes of up to 100,000 dollars.

In the deep-tech and agri-food fields, further options include EIT Food Seedbed Venture Catalyst, with grants of up to 30,000 euro, and the open calls of the Horizon Europe projects COSMIC and AID4SME. The latter focuses on artificial intelligence solutions, with grants of up to 200,000 euro and a deadline of 15 July 2026.

Overall, the July 2026 offer confirms the variety of European instruments available to innovative companies, ranging from grants and equity to acceleration programmes.
